How to manage Google Business Profile from Google Search and Maps
Use the Google Account that has management access to the intended Business Profile. In Search, look for your business name and city or “my business”; in the Maps app, the documented route includes the Business tab. Open the correct location before changing information, reading reviews or checking settings.
These are management routes, not requirements for a customer to read the public listing. Google also provides Business Profile Manager. You do not need to treat Search and Maps as the only possible interface, or assume that a missing button proves you have lost access.
Find the correct business before editing
Google’s profile-finding guidance starts with the account associated with the business. If you use several accounts or manage several locations, verify both selections. A familiar name at the top of the page is not enough when branches share branding.
If management controls are absent, inspect the account and any available notice. It may be an access, verification or interface issue, but the public-looking page alone is not a complete diagnosis. Do not create another listing to work around uncertainty about the existing one.
For example, imagine an administrator preparing holiday hours for two shops in the same town. They search the brand name, open the first result and see plausible opening hours. Before editing, they check the street address and selected location. That small check prevents applying one shop’s schedule to another.
The same principle applies when comparing Search and Maps: confirm that you are looking at the same place and the same type of view. A public page and a management screen can show different controls without representing different businesses.
how to edit business profile on google maps
Google’s editing guidance describes opening the managed profile, selecting Edit profile, changing the relevant information and saving. In the Maps app, the route includes Business and Edit profile. Follow the controls on the specific screen rather than assuming every settings panel uses the same save action.
Choose the field that matches the fact you need to update. Regular opening hours, a temporary exception, contact information and an address are different pieces of information. Confirm the real-world detail before making the change.
Do not fill every available field simply because it exists. Features and applicable fields vary by business and location. A service you do not provide should not be added to make the profile appear more complete.
After submitting a change, check its status and the public result. A completed entry in your working notes is not proof that customers can see it. If urgent information remains wrong, understand the status before deciding which official next step applies.
What does an edit status mean?
Google’s edit-status guidance distinguishes Accepted, Pending and Not approved. Accepted information is displayed; Pending remains under review; Not approved may mean Google could not confirm the change’s accuracy.
That page says review usually takes up to ten minutes but sometimes up to thirty days. This is more specific guidance for edits than treating a general “up to three days” statement as a universal deadline. It is not a promise about your particular edit.
A pending change and a rejected change call for different attention. Repeating the same submission without understanding the status can obscure what you are trying to resolve. Check the relevant notice and whether an appeal route is offered.
Also distinguish your edit from information Google has updated using other sources. An alert about a Google update is not necessarily a rejection of something you submitted. Read the actual changed field and compare it with the correct business facts.
Where settings and notifications sit
The More menu leads to Business Profile settings, including access and advanced settings. Keep those administrative tasks separate from editing public information. Reading a setting does not mean it needs changing.
Google’s notification guidance provides More, then Notifications for selecting available alerts. Notifications can help you notice activity, but their absence does not prove no change or review exists. They are not a substitute for checking the relevant status.
Choose alerts according to responsibilities rather than assuming every switch must be on. If another person handles a task, clarify who will notice and act on relevant information. Do not promise that a particular notification configuration guarantees immediate attention.
For people helping with the profile, use separate access appropriate to their role. Sharing the owner’s password is not necessary to explain a task or arrange a legitimate handover. Check authority before changing access or removing anyone.
how to find business profile id on google maps
Open More, Business Profile settings and Advanced settings in the managed profile. Google’s advanced-settings guidance describes the Business Profile ID used to identify the listing, including for support.
The same area can contain store codes and labels. Store codes are organisational identifiers used for managing locations; they are not Place IDs. Labels help organise profiles and are not public. Changes in Advanced settings are saved automatically, so do not look for an invented universal Save button or alter values while merely trying to read an ID.
Ask what identifier the recipient needs. A support request, an internal location list and a website integration may use different values. Copying the first code you find can create confusion even if it looks technically valid.
| Identifier or value | What to keep distinct |
|---|---|
| Business Profile ID | Identifies the business listing in management and support contexts |
| Place ID | Identifies a place in Google Maps Platform developer contexts |
| Store code | Helps organise locations; not a replacement for either Google identifier |
| Label | An organisational value, not public listing content or proof of ownership |
Google’s Place ID documentation notes that a place can have multiple IDs and that IDs can change. An old value in a spreadsheet is not automatically a current working reference.
An ID is not a password, and knowing it does not grant management rights. It also does not establish that an agency or caller is authorised to act for the business. Confirm the purpose and permissions separately.
Reviews, photos and posts
For reviews, the managed profile provides Read reviews and the available reply controls. Google’s reply guidance requires verification before replying and describes publication checks. Review availability can differ by category and region, so verification is not a guarantee of every feature.
When a reply is useful, base it on what you know. Do not fill an old backlog with invented service details or reveal private customer records. An unanswered review’s date tells you about that item; it does not establish the last date anyone worked on the profile.
For images, choose material that accurately represents the business and helps a visitor understand it. An entrance photo can be useful when access is confusing, but it is not automatically the most important image for every business.
Google’s post guidance describes updates, offers and events. Use the appropriate available controls and accurate dates for the actual content. A post is not a substitute for correcting permanent business information.
Do not assume every profile offers identical communication or publishing options. Use current feature-specific guidance when a control is missing rather than relying on an old screenshot or copying another business’s setup.
When would you use Business Profile Manager?
Business Profile Manager is another management interface, particularly useful for organising multiple locations. Google’s bulk-management guidance describes eligibility involving ten or more locations for bulk features.
That threshold should not be rewritten as “Manager is unavailable if you have fewer than ten locations”. Access to an interface and eligibility for a particular bulk process are different questions.
For a single factual correction, you may prefer the direct Search or Maps route. For a set of locations, organisational controls may be helpful. Choose based on the task and the documented feature rather than an absolute claim that one kind of business must never use another route.
how long does google business profile appeal take
First identify what decision you want reviewed. A suspended profile, a rejected information edit, restricted media and a reported customer review do not all use one route.
Google’s appeal guidance distinguishes these situations and regions. For relevant business-information and media decisions, it identifies the appeals tool for the UK and EEA and a support route elsewhere. Customer-review reporting and appeals use the separate Reviews Management Tool guidance.
Read the current notice and instructions for your decision. A published processing estimate is not a guaranteed completion date, and waiting a specified number of days does not automatically approve an appeal.
Prepare evidence before submitting. Google’s general guidance requires evidence within sixty minutes of submitting the appeal. Submit it promptly; do not rely on opening the evidence form later to start a new clock. Keep the confirmation and check the status through the stated route.
Do not send multiple appeals for the same issue while awaiting a decision. For a suspended profile, Google’s suspension guidance also says not to create a replacement profile for the same business while the appeal is under review.
The useful preparation is relevant, accurate evidence addressing the stated issue. An identifier, an assertion that the business is real or a new duplicate listing does not replace that explanation.
How to check this yourself
Start with one task, such as confirming holiday hours or reading a specific edit decision. Verify the account, location and relevant control before taking action. If you only need an ID, read it without changing adjacent settings.
For a factual edit, confirm the underlying information, submit through the appropriate field and check the resulting status. For a review or post, distinguish a saved draft or pending item from public content. For an appeal, follow the specific decision route rather than a generic sequence remembered from another case.
Keep your notes concrete: which profile, which field or item, what was submitted and what is now visible. Avoid treating a missing button or a single screenshot as proof of a cause you have not established.
If you need help understanding a profile issue, see the audit service or contact Madloba Consult with the public listing and the question. Do not send passwords or verification codes. This article is part of the Profile guide.
Frequently asked questions
how to edit business profile on google maps
Use the Google Account with management access, open the intended Business Profile in Maps, and use Edit profile for the relevant information. Save where that editing screen asks you to, then check the edit status and public result. A saved change is not automatically an approved public change.
how to find business profile id on google maps
In the managed profile, open More, Business Profile settings and Advanced settings. The Business Profile ID is different from a developer-facing Place ID or your own store code. Ask which identifier is needed and do not treat possession of an ID as proof of ownership or permission.
how long do google business profile appeals take
Timing depends on the decision and route. Follow the current notice and appeal status rather than treating an estimate as a guarantee. Prepare evidence before submitting: Google’s general guidance says to attach it within 60 minutes of submitting the appeal. Do not assume opening the evidence form later starts a fresh deadline.
Do I need to download anything to manage my profile?
You can use Google Search in a browser for supported management tasks; the Maps app is another route. Business Profile Manager also exists, and a ten-location bulk-eligibility rule does not mean smaller businesses are forbidden to use Manager. Choose the route for the task and your access.
Why is there no Reply button under my reviews?
Verification is required to reply, but a missing button does not identify the cause by itself. Check the account, intended profile, management access and any notice. Review availability can vary. Do not assume every missing control has the same explanation.
How long do my edits take to show?
Google distinguishes Accepted, Pending and Not approved edits. Its edit-status guidance says review usually takes up to ten minutes but can sometimes take up to thirty days. Read the actual status; do not treat three days as a universal guarantee or repeat an edit just because it is pending.
