Nine people you can name, and one who answers for the result

Most agencies show you a stock photo of a team. Here are the nine people who actually run the work, what each of them is answerable for, and how somebody gets onto this list. Two of us have worked together for nine years.

Who does what, and who you will be writing to

Every name that is a link goes to that person’s LinkedIn profile.

Alex Nekrashevich

Runs the medical side, and answers for the result

Every report is assembled and fact-checked by him, and his name is on it. When something goes wrong, there is one person to ask.

Anastasia Krutikova

First deputy · four years here

Runs the working day and decides who gets tested. If Alex is not at the desk, she is.

Anastasia Berezhkova

Training and testing · nine years here

Runs the twenty task test every newcomer goes through, and teaches the ones who stay.

Marina Orlova

Dentistry is her subject · six years here

We call her the professor. Dental practices were her accounts before this company, and when something has to be understood properly rather than quickly, it goes to her.

Katerina Korzun

Systems analyst · nine years here

Keeps the work in tables and fields, so that nothing lives only in somebody’s head. She has worked with Alex since the video company, before this one existed.

Alexandr Temnosahaty

Support and training materials · four years here

Writes the programme new people learn from, reads what clients send, and routes it to the right desk the same working day.

Viktoriya Prihodko

Mail and enquiries · two years here

Reads everything that arrives and makes sure nobody is left waiting for an answer.

Dzhemal Chaushba

Reviews and the second check · one year here

Answers reviews, checks what others answered, and works with everyone who is new. He arrived as a customer with a small business of his own, kept coming back, and ended up on this side of the desk.

Fedor Berezhkov

Technical work and websites

Keeps the sites and everything technical running: what breaks, he fixes, and what has to be built, he builds.

Behind the nine is a bench of freelancers we tested ourselves. Whoever does the work, you write to one of the nine, and Alex answers for the result.

How somebody gets onto this team

20 identical test tasks·2 taken to a trial·5 kept out of 100 tested

Everyone starts with the same twenty tasks, so the comparison is between people and not between briefs. Two go through to a paid trial. Out of a hundred people tested this way, about five stay, and those five are the bench.

The testing ground is a freelance marketplace, where Madloba Consult has spent eleven years on both sides of the counter: 1 768 orders delivered, 1 750 of them positive and 18 not, and more than three thousand orders placed as a buyer. That is not a portfolio, it is a hiring department that never runs out of candidates.

How the work is checked

Everyone works in one system, and every task leaves a record in it. Work is measured by what came out, not by hours claimed: we know what an hour of this work looks like, because we record ourselves doing it.

An example. Answering twenty reviews takes about half an hour if you simply answer them, and about an hour if you record your screen while explaining every answer: what was opened, why this wording, why this reply to a negative one. Those recordings are how new people learn, and they are also why nobody has to be believed on trust.

There is no office, and that is deliberate

We are spread across countries and we work in writing, so an office would buy us nothing and cost everyone two hours a day of travelling.

The company buys the computer, the phone and the connection, and the working day is measured by what arrives in the system. It also means nobody is lost when they move: the work follows the person rather than the address.

Nobody here is a single point of failure

For every task there are two or three people who can pick it up, so an illness, a holiday or a departure does not stop your work. You keep writing to the same person, and what changes behind that is our problem rather than yours.

You will never be told that the person who knew your case has left, and asked to explain it again from the beginning.
