How to change the email on a Google Business Profile
Start by identifying which email you mean. You may need to change the sign-in address of the same Google Account, give another account access, transfer primary ownership, adjust notifications or update the address customers use on your website. Those are different jobs. There is no single Business Profile email setting that does all of them.
For a handover to another person, use profile access and ownership controls. For a new address on your existing Google Account, check the account’s own settings and whether the change is available. Neither situation is a reason to delete the business listing.
Which email are you trying to change?
Write down the outcome before choosing a button. “Change the business email” is too vague when the same person uses several Google services.
| What you want | Where to start |
|---|---|
| Keep the same account but use a different sign-in address | Google Account email settings |
| Let another person manage the business | Business Profile access settings |
| Put someone else in charge of the existing profile | Primary ownership transfer |
| Change the alerts you receive | Business Profile notifications and relevant account email settings |
| Let customers contact a different inbox | Your public website contact information and available profile contact options |
For example, imagine a small repair business hiring an administrator. The owner wants that person to update holiday hours, while customers should continue using the existing contact page. Renaming the owner’s Google Account would not address the administrator’s need for separate access. Giving the administrator control of the owner’s personal mailbox would create a much wider handover than the job requires.
A change of staff and a change of brand email can happen on the same day, but treat them as separate decisions. Agree who needs access, what responsibilities they have and which customer-facing information actually needs updating.

For another account to manage the profile, an owner can use More > Business Profile settings > People and access, then Add, enter the address, choose a role and send the invitation. Google requires each user to have a Google Account; Google Groups cannot hold these roles. An invitation must be accepted. These are the steps in Google’s owners and managers guidance.
Choose access for the work involved. Someone who updates business information does not necessarily need to take over the business’s primary ownership. Avoid giving broader control simply because an email address looks official.
For a genuine handover, only the primary owner can transfer primary ownership. Google’s transfer guidance describes selecting an existing user in People and access, editing Access, choosing Primary owner and saving. The recipient can be an existing owner or manager. New-user restrictions may prevent completing the transfer immediately.
Confirm the resulting roles before deciding whether the previous account should retain access. A business owner continuing to supervise the work has a different situation from a contractor whose engagement has ended. Do not remove access just to make the list look tidy while responsibility is still unresolved.
A password handover is not a substitute for this process. The practical goal is to give the intended person their own access to the correct profile, not access to everything in somebody else’s account.

If you intend to keep the same Google Account, use Google’s account-email instructions. Under Personal info, open Email and Google Account email. If the change option is absent, the change may not be available for that account.
Google currently describes an eligible Gmail-to-Gmail change. It keeps the same account; the old address remains an alternate, and mail sent to either address reaches the inbox. Google limits creating a new Gmail address this way to once in 12 months and three times in total. Work or school accounts should use their administrator’s route. Review the linked guidance about connected services and backups before proceeding.
This is not a way to transfer a personal account to a new employee. Keeping an account while changing its address and giving a different person control are separate choices.
Ask what else depends on the account. Does it hold personal files, subscriptions or sign-ins that have nothing to do with the business? A request to update one listing should not quietly become a decision about all of those connections.
If the desired address is already used elsewhere, do not assume typing it into a setting will merge two accounts. Use the options Google actually offers and stop to clarify the intended result if the screen describes a different operation. In particular, deleting an account or Gmail service is not a routine step in a Business Profile handover.

For alerts, Google’s notification guidance gives the Search route More > Notifications. You can turn available notification types on or off. Notifications may arrive through email, Search or Maps; important updates may still arrive even if some types are disabled.
That controls alerts, not who owns the profile. Do not promote someone to primary owner solely to troubleshoot an inbox, and do not remove the business profile to silence an unwanted message.
Google separately describes account email types. The main account email identifies the account. A recovery email helps with access problems. A contact email can receive account information, while an alternate email can provide another sign-in address. Some products still use the main account email even after a contact email is added.
Therefore, changing a contact email is not a guaranteed redirect for every Business Profile notification. Check the relevant notification settings and the actual recipient of the messages you need. Receiving one kind of Google email does not prove that every other kind will reach the same address.
If the problem is a verification message, treat that separately too. Google chooses which verification methods are available; an email option is not something you can demand by changing an owner’s address. Follow the instructions for the method offered. Do not reuse a deadline from postal verification as a general rule for email codes. See Google’s verification guidance.

For an address customers can write to, first check where it is actually displayed. It may be on your website’s contact page rather than in the listing itself.
Google’s profile-editing guidance documents public fields such as phone and website, along with other features whose availability varies. It does not document a dedicated standard public email field. Account contact and recovery settings should not be confused with customer-facing information.
If your business uses email enquiries, make the intended address clear on the relevant website page and check that the profile’s website link leads to the right place. Do not invent a workaround by putting an email address into an unrelated field. Use fields for their intended purpose.
Review the visitor’s route in plain terms: can someone find how to contact you, understand which channel to use and reach the correct business? A successfully delivered Google notification answers none of those questions. Public contact information and account administration need separate checks.
What will you see on the People and access screen?
The access page distinguishes current users from pending invitations. A pending invite is not completed access. Google documents cancellation from the pending section if an invitation was sent incorrectly. Only owners can change other users’ roles or remove them; manager access is insufficient.
Read the account address as well as the displayed name. Two people may have similar names, and one person may use a personal and a work account. If an invitation is going to the wrong identity, fix that uncertainty before proceeding further.
An error does not by itself identify the cause. Google lists a seven-day restriction on certain actions by new owners or managers, including removing users and transferring primary ownership. Check that alongside the role and the invitation state. Do not assume waiting will resolve a wrong-account or wrong-permission problem.
Will changing the email remove reviews or previous work?
An ownership transfer preserves the existing business information, including reviews. It is not a new listing and it does not provide a clean slate for criticism.
Distinguish it from removing profile content and managers. Google’s removal guidance describes consequences for owner-created content under that separate operation. A menu that mentions removal deserves careful reading; it should not be used because you cannot find an email box.
For individual user removal, Google says that user’s earlier replies and other actions remain on the profile. Removing their access does not erase the history of work they performed. Decide whether access should end based on responsibility, not on an assumption that their old contributions will disappear.
Nobody has the old mailbox any more. What now?
First establish whether the problem is access to the Google Account or ownership of the Business Profile. For an organisation-managed account, speak to its administrator. For an account you own but cannot enter, use Google’s account-recovery route. Do not seek another person’s password as a shortcut.
If another account controls the verified profile and you are authorised to manage it, Google provides an ownership-request process. The documented route for storefront and hybrid businesses starts by finding the existing profile at business.google.com/add and requesting access. Service-area businesses use the support route described on that page.
Google gives the current owner three days to respond. A denied request can have an appeal route; after no response, an option to claim may become available, but it is not always offered. Follow the confirmation and status instructions rather than treating the elapsed time as an automatic transfer.
Keep the issue focused on the existing business and your authority to manage it. Creating a replacement listing to escape an access problem can leave two records to untangle. A new email address alone does not demonstrate that you should control the profile.
How to check this yourself
Begin with a sentence that describes the intended result: “The administrator needs access”, “I want a new sign-in address on my account” or “Customers should use a different inbox”. If your request contains more than one outcome, separate them.
Check the account you are using and the profile you intend to manage. The absence of an expected button is a reason to investigate, not proof that the business has no owner. When access settings are available, inspect the actual roles and pending invitations instead of relying on a remembered address.
Before ending someone’s access, confirm that the intended person can use their own account and that the roles match the agreed handover. Separately check customer-facing contact information and the notification types you need. These checks answer different questions, so one successful result should not stand in for the others.
If the situation remains unclear, describe the outcome and the screen or message you encountered without sending passwords or verification codes. See the audit service or contact Madloba Consult to discuss the profile question. This article is part of the Profile guide.
Frequently asked questions
how to change email on google business profile
First identify what you want to change: the sign-in address of the same Google Account, another person’s access, primary ownership, notifications or customer contact information. These use different settings. Do not remove the profile or share a password to solve an email problem.
how to change email of google business profile
For customer enquiries, check the public contact options available for your profile and the contact page on your website. Google’s standard profile-editing guidance does not document a dedicated public email field. Changing an owner’s sign-in or recovery email does not create one.

For the same account, check Google Account settings under Personal info, Email and Google Account email. Use the change option only if available and review its consequences first. For a different person or account, use Business Profile access settings instead.
Will I lose my reviews if I change the email?
An ownership transfer keeps the existing profile and its reviews; it is not a review reset. Removing profile content and managers is a different operation. Choose the action that matches the handover rather than deleting anything because an address needs changing.
What happens to the old address after I transfer ownership?
Check the access list after the transfer. Do not assume the previous account has lost access just because another account is now primary owner. Keep or remove remaining access according to the person’s agreed responsibilities, after confirming the handover succeeded.
Why does the new owner get an error the same day?
A seven-day restriction affects certain actions by new owners and managers, including removing users and transferring primary ownership. It is a possible explanation, not a diagnosis of every error. Check the actual role, invitation status and message before deciding what to do.
Nobody has the old mailbox any more. What now?
First distinguish an inaccessible Google Account from a profile controlled by someone else. Use account recovery or the organisation’s administrator for the former; follow Google’s ownership-request guidance for the latter if authorised. A request does not guarantee access or immediate approval.
