How to add services to a Google Business Profile
Open your Business Profile with the Google Account used to manage it, select Edit services, choose the services you actually offer and save. If an offering is missing from Google's suggestions, look for Add more services and Add custom service. Google makes the services editor available to certain business categories, so not every profile has the same controls.
The important distinction is what you are adding. A repair, treatment or consultation belongs in services. A physical item may belong in products. A restaurant's dishes belong in its menu. The towns a mobile business travels to belong in its service area. These fields answer different customer questions, even when they appear on the same profile.
How to add services on Google Business Profile
Start with the account that has permission to manage the business. Find the profile in Google Search or Maps and open its management controls. If you only see the ordinary public listing, check the account and the profile you selected before rewriting anything.
In the services editor:
- Select Edit services.
- Choose the suggested services that your business genuinely provides.
- If necessary, select Add more services, then Add custom service for an offering missing from the list.
- Save and check the resulting entries.
Google also provides an option to add a business category through this editor. Use it when it accurately describes the business, not simply because it unlocks more suggested phrases. A category describes the kind of business; individual services describe particular work it provides. You do not need to accept every suggested service. Google's services guidance explains these controls and the restrictions on custom names.
If Edit services is missing, first establish that you are managing the correct profile and that the feature is available for its category. Some profile features vary by category or region. Absence of a button alone cannot tell you whether the issue is access, availability or the interface you are using. Do not change to an inaccurate category to force the editor to appear.
How should you name and describe a service?
Use the name a customer would recognise when deciding whether to contact you. It should distinguish the work without trying to fit the whole sales message into the label. Google restricts custom service names containing profanity, meaningless text, personal information, prices or phone numbers. Where the editor offers separate description and price fields, use those fields for the relevant details.
For example, imagine a salon offers haircuts, colouring and colour consultations. A customer needs to know whether a consultation is a separate appointment, not see several versions of the same service name with different promotional adjectives. The business could list the actual consultation and explain what it covers using confirmed information. It should not invent a duration, inclusion or price just to fill every field.
A useful description answers a practical question: what does this service include, who is it suitable for, or what must the customer confirm before booking? State a limitation when it affects the decision. If a price depends on an assessment, avoid entering a made-up fixed amount that contradicts the booking information. Check that the profile and the business's own service page describe the same offer.
There is no need to turn every small task within an appointment into a separate service. Distinct offerings help a person choose; near-duplicate labels can make the list harder to understand. This is a practical recommendation about clarity, not a Google rule about how many services a business must list.
How to edit services on Google Business Profile
Open Edit services, select an existing service, correct its information and save. Google allows information such as a description and price in the service's details. If an offering has ended, use Delete service instead of leaving it available with an unclear explanation.
Review the actual change before saving. Renaming an existing service is different from introducing another offering. If the business still provides the same work, an accurate correction can be clearer than keeping the old label and adding a duplicate.
Choose changes when the information needs correcting. There is no universal requirement to leave a services list untouched for several weeks, or to change it on a fixed schedule. After a change, check whether it is pending, accepted or not approved where a status is available. Google's profile-edit guidance explains that edits are reviewed; Save is not proof of publication.
How to add products to Google Business Profile
Products use a different editor. Google's manual product tool is intended for local shops selling physical goods. Open Edit products where available, enter the item's accurate information and use Publish. To edit a manually managed item, open that product and publish the correction. To remove it, select the item, open its Menu and choose Delete.
Check who supplies the product data first. If the profile is linked to Merchant Center, selecting Edit products takes you to Merchant Center to manage those products. Access to the profile does not mean you can ignore the access required in that linked account. Google's product editor guidance describes this distinction.
There is also an automatic local inventory route for eligible retailers. It has its own supported locations, equipment and account requirements. It is not the same as manually adding a product card. Google warns that starting automatic product display can replace manually uploaded products, so assess the existing product setup before connecting another source. See Google's local inventory guidance.
If you sell a service rather than a physical item, start with the services editor. If a products control is missing, do not diagnose the cause from that alone or assume every business can activate it. The business type, feature availability and existing data source matter.
How to add a menu to Google Business Profile
For eligible food and drink businesses, use Edit menu, choose or create the appropriate section, then add a menu item with its confirmed details and save. To correct an existing entry, select the item or section and save the change. Deleting a section can also delete its items, so check what is included before confirming.
A menu is more useful when its sections and item details match what a visitor can actually order. For example, imagine a restaurant has removed a dish from its current menu. Changing a general business description does not remove that dish from the menu tool or from an older menu link. The business should identify the source showing the outdated item and correct that source.
Google says the menu editor may not be available when a menu is provided through the Business Profile API. An externally supplied menu or linked menu page can therefore require a different update route. Establish whether you are editing menu items, a menu URL or a provider's data before deciding that an edit has failed.
Google's menu guidance says changes can take 24 to 48 hours to display on Maps and Search. Treat that as display guidance rather than a guaranteed deadline. Check the relevant menu section after updating it; changing services does not update a food menu automatically.
What is service area in Google Business Profile?
Services describe what you do. A service area describes where you visit or deliver to customers. Adding a service name does not set the places you cover, and adding a town does not create a branch there.
A service-area business serves customers away from its base rather than at its business address. If customers are not served at the address, Google says to remove that address from the public profile. A hybrid business can have both an eligible customer-facing location and a service area. The choice should reflect how the business actually operates.
To change coverage, open Edit profile, then Location and the Service area control. Select supported cities, postal codes or other named areas and save. Google allows up to 20 areas; this is not a radius setting or an instruction to fill all available slots. Its general guidance puts the overall area within about two hours' driving time of the business base, with allowance for larger areas for some businesses in its representation guidelines.
Use the service-area instructions together with Google's business representation guidelines. Accurate coverage helps customers judge whether you can serve them. It does not promise visibility in every place entered.
How do you verify a service-area business?
Select Get verified and follow the method offered for the business. Google automatically determines the available methods; you cannot assume that a preferred phone, email, video or mail option will be available. More than one method may be required.
Keep the information about the real business accurate even when its address is hidden publicly. Hiding an address does not establish eligibility or remove verification requirements. Follow the verification instructions for the method actually offered instead of borrowing steps from a different business's experience.
Will adding services improve your position in Google?
An accurate service list gives a potential customer more information about the business. Google says a relevant service may be highlighted when someone searches for it. That does not mean every entry will be shown for every search.
Google's local ranking guidance discusses relevance, distance and prominence. It does not give a guaranteed ranking increase for adding a particular number of services or repeating a location in each name. Nor does the absence of a measured service-list effect in that guidance prove that the field has no effect at all. Use it to describe genuine offerings and check the wider accuracy of the profile. Google explains local ranking here.
Which Google Business Profile services should you hire?
Start with the problem you need help resolving. Is the services list inaccurate, are products coming from another account, or is the menu being supplied by a provider? These are different assignments. A clear scope lets you compare help without assuming that every provider will manage every connected system.
Ask what will be reviewed, what may be changed, who will approve factual details and how ongoing updates will be handled. Confirm any costs and access arrangements before agreeing. Do not treat a promise of a particular Google position as proof of expertise: Google's third-party guidance warns against providers promising influence over placement.
If you need help understanding inconsistent offerings or the wrong editing route, contact Madloba Consult about an audit. Identify the affected profile section and the information that should be correct. The scope of any work needs to be agreed; this page does not promise a particular edit, publication time or search result.
How can you check the result yourself?
Choose one service that matters to a customer before making another round of changes. Confirm that its name matches the work actually offered, its details agree with the business's current information and it is in the correct field. Then check the edit status and the customer-facing profile. In Google Maps, customers can find the service list under Services.
If the expected entry is absent, distinguish a pending edit from an unavailable feature or a different source of data. Check the saved entry and any status message before submitting the same change again. For a custom service, also check the name against Google's restrictions. For a product or menu, return to its own editor or provider.
The next useful action is a specific correction: remove an ended offering, clarify an ambiguous name, fix a confirmed detail or establish which account supplies the information. A longer list is not the goal. A customer should be able to tell whether the business offers the service they need and what to do next.
Frequently asked questions
how to add services in google business profile
Open the profile with its linked Google Account and select Edit services. Select the services you actually provide and save. If a service is missing from the suggestions, use Add more services and Add custom service. Availability depends on the business category; a missing control does not by itself identify the cause.
how to edit services in google business profile
Open Edit services and select the existing service. Update its description or price where those fields are available, then save. Use Delete service for an offering you no longer provide. Keep prices and phone numbers out of custom service names; a separate price field is different from the name.
how to remove products from google business profile
For a product managed in the Business Profile product editor, open Edit products, select the item, then use Menu and Delete. If the profile is linked to Merchant Center, Edit products takes you there to manage the products. Automatically supplied inventory can have a different source, so identify that source before trying to remove an item.
how to edit menu on google business profile
For an eligible food or drink business, open Edit menu, choose the item or section, make the correction and save. A menu supplied through the Business Profile API may not have this editor. Google says menu changes can take 24 to 48 hours to display; this is guidance, not a promised completion time.
what is service area in google business profile
A service area describes where you visit or deliver to customers, rather than what you sell. Enter accurate cities, postal codes or other supported areas, up to 20. Google generally advises an overall area within about two hours of the business base, while its guidelines allow larger areas for some businesses. Hide the business address if customers are not served there.
how to verify a service area business on google
Open the profile and follow Get verified using the method Google offers. Google determines the available methods automatically and may require more than one. A hidden public address does not remove the need to provide accurate information about the real business. Do not assume that a particular verification method will be available.
how to add services to my google business profile
Sign in with a Google Account that has permission to manage the profile, find the business in Search or Maps and open Edit services if available. Add accurate offerings and save. Check the edit status and then the customer-facing profile; saving a change does not guarantee immediate display.
What you will see after you press Save
The edit may be reviewed before it appears publicly. Check its status rather than assuming a saved entry is already visible. Customers can see the service list in the Services section in Google Maps. Menu and product changes have their own tools and display behaviour, so check the relevant section rather than expecting all three to update together.
