Can I remove a Google review I posted?
Yes. Sign in to the Google Account that wrote the review, find it in your Google Maps contributions and use its edit or delete menu. You do not need the business to approve that decision.
First decide what you want to achieve. Removing a review you no longer want to publish is different from correcting an error, describing a later resolution or challenging Google's moderation decision. Those choices lead to different actions. If an appeal is already pending, changing the content can cancel it.
Find the review before you change it
Start with the account, then the place. A phone and a computer may be signed in to different Google Accounts even when both belong to you. Check the account shown in Maps and the exact business name and address beside the contribution.
This is particularly useful for branches with similar names. A review about one location should not be treated as a review about every branch. Read the text before opening its menu; do not rely on the star rating alone.
If you want a personal record of what you wrote, keep a copy before deleting it. That is a practical recordkeeping choice, not a step Google requires or a promise that a deleted review can later be restored. Avoid sending your account password to someone who offers to handle the removal.
How do I remove a Google review I posted on a computer?
Google's computer instructions for managing your own reviews give this route:
- Open Google Maps with the account that posted the review.
- Open Menu, then Your contributions and Reviews.
- Find the correct review and open More beside it.
- Choose Delete review and follow the on-screen steps.
Choose Edit review instead if you want to correct the contribution. Google also notes that the last edit date can appear as the review's post date.
After completing the action, reopen the relevant review area and check what is shown. These are documented instructions, not a live test of your particular account. If the interface differs, consult the current help page and the options visible in your account rather than pressing an unrelated report button.
What changes on Android or iPhone?
The mobile route begins in the Google Maps app. Google's Android instructions and iPhone and iPad instructions direct you through Contribute, View your profile and See all reviews. Open More beside your review and select the edit or delete option.
Check the account in the app before you begin. If you are helping a relative or colleague, let that person use their own account and make the decision. Explaining the route does not require taking control of their email.
Do not confuse removing a review with uninstalling the app or deleting a bookmark for the business. The relevant action is attached to the contribution itself. A saved place and a published opinion serve different purposes.
Should I delete it or update it?
Consider which version gives an accurate account of your experience. If you wrote about the wrong business, removing the misplaced contribution may be appropriate. If you described a real problem and the business later resolved it, an update can explain both events.
For example, an update could say that a missed appointment was rearranged and describe the eventual service. It does not need to erase the original inconvenience or award a particular number of stars. Only include events you can honestly describe.
Keep a correction proportionate. Remove an unsupported accusation rather than replacing it with a different guess. Do not add another person's private contact details to prove that you were right. Google's Maps content policy still applies when an existing review is edited.
The choice belongs to the reviewer. A business may resolve a complaint, but it should not attach a discount, payment or other reward to revising or removing a negative review. An ordinary service resolution and an incentive for changing public feedback are different matters.
What if I cannot find the review?
Check the account and the business first, but do not assume a missing review has only one explanation. It may have been posted elsewhere, removed, rejected or affected by another restriction. You may also be looking at a different public view from the one you expected.
Google explains that removed or rejected content can remain visible in the author's Maps profile with a status such as Not posted or Private. Some content may instead be deleted entirely. Seeing your words while signed in therefore does not establish that everyone else can see them.
Read any status or notification before taking action. If the review is still available to manage, use the options attached to that item. If it is absent, record what you can confirm rather than telling the business that Google definitely removed it or that it was never submitted.
A useful note contains the business link, the account you checked, the approximate date and the exact status displayed. You do not need to send private account information to a business to explain that you are investigating your own contribution.
What if Google removed it and I want it restored?
That is an appeal question, not a deletion request. Google's content appeal guidance describes eligibility and the route from your Maps profile. Availability depends on the type of action and account.
If you appeal a content removal, do not casually edit or delete the appealed contribution while waiting: Google says either action cancels the appeal. Content and account feature restrictions also have different appeal routes. Deleting a review does not by itself resolve an account feature restriction.
Use the reason shown in your own account. A business's appeal against a rejected report about someone else's review is a separate process; its manager cannot submit your author appeal as though the review belonged to the business.
There is no guaranteed restoration outcome. Where the available route is unclear, keep the notification and follow its applicable help links, including any regional resolution options Google identifies.
Can the business remove my review instead?
The business cannot directly delete a customer's contribution through its management account. It can use Google's review reporting process for an alleged policy violation. Disliking the rating is not itself a reason for removal.
You can listen to an explanation or accept a genuine correction without handing over your account. If you choose to update the review, describe your own experience and decision. Neither pressure from the business nor a promise from a removal seller establishes that deletion is required.
For a business handling a report about someone else's content, see the review removal service. This article concerns the author's own contribution. It is part of the Reviews guide.

Find your contribution under the account you used to publish it. You can delete it or edit the text and rating if an update better describes what happened. The decision should reflect your experience, without a reward tied to changing the review.
how to remove google review i posted
Use your own review's menu, rather than reporting the business or asking its manager to delete your words. If you cannot find it, check your other Google Accounts and any content-status message; absence from the public profile does not establish what happened.
Can the business delete a review I wrote about it
A business manager cannot directly delete your review. The business can report content it believes violates Google's policies, and Google decides whether to remove it. You retain the separate option to edit or delete your own contribution.
A business offered me a discount to take my review down
Google prohibits incentives in exchange for revising or removing a negative review. Keep any service complaint and its resolution separate from your decision about the review. You can voluntarily update a genuine account of events without accepting that condition.
