How to add Google reviews to Shopify

Published by Madloba Consult Published Updated

There are two different Business Profile tasks in Shopify: linking customers to Google to write a new review, and showing reviews that already exist. A review-request link can be added as a normal Shopify link. For an Online Store 2.0 theme, Reputon documents a concrete display route: install Google Reviews by Reputon, search for the business by name, let the app import the existing Google Business Profile reviews, choose a widget, then add the Google Reviews app block in the theme editor and verify the storefront against the source profile. Google Customer Reviews remains a separate Merchant Center program.

Before you change Shopify, decide what you mean by “Google reviews.” A Business Profile review, a Google Customer Reviews survey and a store-rating widget are different products. Mixing them is why many instructions become confusing.

If your goal is simply to help customers leave a review on your Google Business Profile, the easiest verified route does not require an app: create the Google review-request link, place it on a Shopify page or theme section, and test it from the storefront.

If your goal is to show existing Google Business Profile reviews inside the store, that is a different job. This article now gives one concrete documented example: Google Reviews by Reputon. Reputon’s own documentation says the app can find a Business Profile by business name, import the existing reviews and expose a Google Reviews app block for Shopify’s theme editor. The steps below describe the documentation, not a live installation on a real store.

How do you add a Google Business Profile review link to Shopify?

How do you get the correct Google review-request link?

Google’s current review link guidance says to open the Business Profile, select Read reviews → Get more reviews, then copy the review link. This link is for writing a new review. It is not the same as a link to one existing review.

Check that you are working with the correct business before copying it, especially if the Google account manages more than one profile.

How do you put that external link into Shopify?

Shopify’s rich text editor documentation explicitly supports external links on pages and other editable content.

One verified no-app route is:

  1. In Shopify admin, open the page where you want the review call-to-action.
  2. Add or edit text such as Leave us a Google review.
  3. Highlight the text and choose Insert link.
  4. Paste the full Google review-request URL.
  5. Save.
  6. Open the storefront and test the link as a customer.

If the store’s theme has a suitable rich-text, button or link block, you can put the same destination there instead. Shopify’s sections and blocks documentation explains that themes can contain text, buttons and links, although the exact blocks available depend on the theme.

What should the result look like?

The Shopify page should contain a normal link or button. When a customer selects it, the destination should be the Google review-request flow for the intended Business Profile.

This route does not copy existing Google reviews onto the Shopify page. It only gives customers a route to leave a review on Google.

How can you show existing Google Business Profile reviews in Shopify?

One documented route is Google Reviews by Reputon, a third-party Shopify app. This is an example of a complete published integration path, not a recommendation to buy it and not a claim that Madloba Consult tested it in a live Shopify store.

What does this Reputon route require?

Use this route only when these conditions fit:

  • the business already has a Google Business Profile with reviews you want to show;
  • you have permission to install a Shopify app;
  • the store uses an Online Store 2.0 theme that exposes the app block described below;
  • you can identify the correct business when the app searches Google by business name.

Shopify’s own theme-app documentation says app blocks are added through the theme editor only when the installed app and the theme support the relevant block. Do not assume a block exists until you can see it in that store.

How do you connect the correct Google Business Profile?

Reputon’s Google Reviews Widget documentation and its Shopify setup guide document this flow:

  1. Install Google Reviews by Reputon from the Shopify App Store.
  2. Open the app.
  3. Search for the business by name.
  4. Confirm that the business/profile the app finds is the intended location before continuing.
  5. Let the app import the existing Google Business Profile reviews.
  6. Choose the widget layout you want to use.

The vendor describes the app as pulling reviews from the connected Google Business Profile. Its Help Center also states that the Google Reviews app imports Google Business/Maps reviews and updates them automatically. This article records those vendor-documented capabilities; it does not independently test the data connection.

If the business name produces several possible locations, confirm the correct location before treating the import as complete. Do not publish a widget merely because some Google reviews appeared.

How do you place the imported reviews on a Shopify page?

For the vendor’s documented Online Store 2.0 route:

  1. In Shopify, go to Online Store → Edit theme.
  2. Open the page or template where the reviews should appear.
  3. Choose Add block → Apps.
  4. Select Google Reviews.
  5. Place the block where it belongs on the page.
  6. Save the theme changes.

Reputon documents its widget as a native app block for Shopify 2.0 themes. Shopify separately documents the general app-block mechanism. The exact page templates and available block positions depend on the real theme, so do not invent a placement that the editor does not offer.

How do you verify that the correct existing reviews are being shown?

Do not call the integration complete just because the block renders.

Check the storefront while signed out of Shopify admin and verify:

  1. the widget appears on the intended page;
  2. the app is connected to the intended Google Business Profile; if the chosen widget layout displays a business label or location, check that too;
  3. several displayed reviewer names, ratings and review texts match the source Business Profile;
  4. the block remains readable on desktop and mobile;
  5. no widget text suggests that the reviews were written on Shopify if they came from Google.

Reputon says its Google reviews update automatically; its Help Center currently describes a 24-hour update cycle. Treat that as vendor documentation, not as a timing guarantee verified in your store.

This gives you a concrete way to show existing Google Business Profile reviews. It is different from the review-request link above, which only sends someone to Google to write a new review.

How is Google Customer Reviews different?

Google Customer Reviews is not the same as the reviews on a Business Profile. Google’s current Merchant Center guide describes it as a program that lets buyers opt in after checkout and later receive a survey about their purchase experience. Those responses contribute to a store rating.

The program has its own technical integration. Google’s survey opt-in documentation says the opt-in module belongs on order-confirmation pages and requires transaction values such as order ID, email, delivery country and estimated delivery date. Google also points Shopify merchants using the Google & YouTube app toward its store-widget integration route.

Google’s current store widget documentation describes a separate widget that can show store-quality or rating information and specifically notes that Shopify merchants can implement it.

So keep the products separate:

What you want Google product Shopify implementation
Ask a customer for a public Google Maps/Search review Google Business Profile review request Normal Shopify link or button to Google’s review-request URL
Show existing Business Profile reviews on your store Google Business Profile reviews Documented example: Google Reviews by Reputon → search for the business → import existing reviews → add the Google Reviews app block in an Online Store 2.0 theme → verify against the source profile
Collect post-purchase survey feedback for store rating Google Customer Reviews Merchant Center program and its required checkout/order-confirmation integration
Show Google store-rating information Google Customer Reviews / store widget Current Google store widget integration, if the store is eligible and configured

Can you add Google reviews to Shopify for free?

A simple Business Profile review-request link does not require a review-display app. Shopify can store a normal external link, and Google provides the review-request URL.

A live feed of existing reviews is different. This article does not state a price for Reputon because app pricing and limits can change. Check the current Shopify App Store listing before installation, along with review limits, refresh behavior and branding requirements.

What should you not promise from a review block?

Do not promise that putting a Google review link or widget on a Shopify page will automatically create stars beside your store in Google Search. A storefront display and Search rich-result eligibility are separate issues, and Google does not guarantee a rich result simply because review content is visible on the page.

Also do not confuse a review request link with a share link to an existing review. One asks a customer to write something new; the other opens a review that already exists.

How do you verify the Shopify implementation?

Check the result from the storefront, not only from the Shopify editor.

For a normal review-request link:

  1. Open the page on desktop while signed out of Shopify admin.
  2. Select the review link or button.
  3. Confirm the destination is the intended Google Business Profile review flow.
  4. Repeat on a phone.
  5. Confirm the button text does not imply an incentive or a required positive rating.

For the Reputon review block documented above:

  1. Confirm the Google Reviews app block loads for a customer who is not logged in to Shopify admin.
  2. Confirm in the app that the connected business/location is the intended Google Business Profile; if the chosen widget layout displays a business label, check that too.
  3. Compare several displayed reviewer names, ratings and review texts with the source Google Business Profile.
  4. Check desktop and mobile layout.
  5. Record that the displayed source is Google Business Profile reviews via Google Reviews by Reputon, and record the date of the check.
  6. If the app block is unavailable in the actual theme or the imported profile cannot be identified confidently, stop and use the vendor’s current documentation/support instead of inventing a workaround.

This is enough to verify what is on the Shopify page. It does not prove that a Google Search feature, ranking change or sales increase will follow.

Questions

How do I add a Google review link to Shopify?

Copy the review-request link from your Google Business Profile, then add it as an external link in a Shopify page, rich-text section, button or compatible block. Save and test the link in the storefront.

Can Shopify display my existing Google Business Profile reviews?

Yes, with a documented third-party integration. Reputon documents one route for Online Store 2.0: install Google Reviews by Reputon, open the app and search for the business by name so it imports the existing Google Business Profile reviews, choose a widget, then add the Google Reviews app block in the Shopify theme editor and save. Verify the displayed reviews against the source profile. This article documents that route from the vendor and Shopify help; it was not live-tested in a store.

Is Google Customer Reviews the same as Google Business Profile reviews?

No. Google Customer Reviews is a Merchant Center program for purchase-experience surveys and store ratings. Business Profile reviews are the public reviews attached to your profile in Search and Maps.

Can I add Google reviews to Shopify for free?

A normal external review-request link does not require a review-display app. The concrete existing-review route documented in this article requires the third-party Google Reviews by Reputon app; check its current Shopify App Store pricing and limits before installation because this article does not fix a price.

Will a Google review widget automatically give my Shopify result stars in Google Search?

Do not assume that. A storefront widget and Google Search rich-result eligibility are separate systems. Adding visible reviews or a widget does not guarantee a review rich result.

How do I check that the Shopify review link works?

Open the storefront as a customer, click the link or button, and confirm it goes to the intended Google review-request destination for the correct business. Test on both desktop and mobile.

Should I use an app block or edit theme code?

For the concrete Reputon route in this article, use its app block when your Online Store 2.0 theme exposes it. Shopify notes that app-block availability depends on the app and theme. Do not edit theme code merely to imitate these steps; use a separate documented route if the required app block is unavailable.
