ChatGPT SEO prompts
ChatGPT SEO prompts are useful for drafting, grouping supplied data and checking whether a page answers a customer's question. They are not search-volume data, ranking instructions or a way to submit information to Google. The safest prompts provide real source material, ask for a limited output and include a human verification step before anything is published.

A useful ChatGPT SEO prompt is not a secret command for ranking. It is a clear instruction for a limited piece of work: analyse material you provide, produce a draft, group data or point out what a reader may still be missing.
That makes prompts useful, but much less magical than many lists suggest. The prompt should improve the work you do with the assistant. It does not itself submit a page to Google, create measured search demand or guarantee that a page will appear in Google or ChatGPT search.
Below are eight practical prompts a small business owner can actually use. Each one includes the input, the expected output and the check that needs to happen afterwards.
What makes a ChatGPT SEO prompt useful?
Use four parts:
- Task: what you want the assistant to do.
- Source material: the text, page, query export or customer questions it should use.
- Boundary: what it must not invent or assume.
- Check: how you will decide whether the output is usable.
This matters because an assistant can produce fluent text even when the input is thin. Giving it a business name and a keyword is not enough to establish prices, services, locations, qualifications, customer demand or competitive claims.
When ChatGPT uses web search, OpenAI’s current ChatGPT Search guidance says responses may include citations and a Sources view. The same guidance warns that search results and citations can be incomplete, outdated or incorrect and tells users to open the source and check that it supports the answer.
So the prompt is the beginning of a checked workflow, not the evidence itself.
Which ChatGPT SEO prompts are useful for a business owner?
1. Which customer questions does this page still fail to answer?
Input: your current page text and a short list of real questions customers ask.
Read the page below as a first-time customer.
Use only the page and the customer questions I provide.
List the questions that are not answered, partly answered, or answered unclearly.
For each gap, quote the heading where the answer belongs.
Do not invent prices, policies, guarantees or customer questions.
PAGE:
[paste page]
REAL CUSTOMER QUESTIONS:
[paste questions]
Expected output: a gap list, not a replacement page.
Check: verify every “real customer question” came from your source list rather than from the model. Decide which gaps genuinely belong on this URL before adding anything.
2. Which claims on this page need evidence?
Input: a draft article or service page.
Review the text below for factual claims that a reader might reasonably want to verify.
Return a table with: claim, why it needs support, likely source type, and whether the text currently provides support.
Do not decide that a claim is true just because it sounds plausible.
Do not create citations.
TEXT:
[paste text]
Expected output: a fact-check queue.
Check: open the actual primary sources yourself. Delete or weaken claims you cannot support. This prompt is especially useful for platform rules, prices, statistics, legal assertions and phrases such as “always”, “never”, “most” or “guaranteed”.
3. Does the title and description match what the page really delivers?
Input: page title, meta description and body.
Compare this title and meta description with the page content.
Identify any promise in the metadata that the page does not actually fulfil.
Suggest one accurate title and one accurate meta description.
Do not add services, locations, numbers or results that are not in the page.
TITLE:
[title]
DESCRIPTION:
[description]
PAGE:
[paste page]
Expected output: one consistency check and one proposed rewrite.
Check: confirm that the wording still matches the public page after your final edits. Metadata should not promise a “complete guide” when the article omits the actual procedure.
4. How can I group real Search Console queries into customer questions?
Input: an exported or copied set of Search Console queries. Do not ask the assistant to invent the data.
Group the supplied Search Console queries by the customer question they appear to express.
Keep the original queries in each group.
Create a separate "unclear intent" group when you cannot infer the question confidently.
Do not add search volume or popularity estimates.
QUERIES:
[paste measured queries]
Expected output: a content-research grouping based on data you supplied.
Check: keep the source export. Google’s Performance report shows clicks, impressions, CTR, average position and the queries that showed your site. Those figures are measured data; an unsourced number produced by a model is not a substitute for them.
5. Can you turn my notes into a first draft without inventing facts?
Input: your own notes, confirmed facts and target customer question.
Draft a clear answer to the question below using only my confirmed notes.
If information is missing, insert [NEEDS CONFIRMATION] rather than guessing.
Use question-based headings where they help the reader.
Do not invent experience, prices, results, clients, dates, platform rules or quotations.
CUSTOMER QUESTION:
[question]
CONFIRMED NOTES:
[paste notes]
Expected output: a first draft with explicit gaps.
Check: compare every factual sentence with the notes. Then add the first-hand detail, judgement and sourcing that make the page genuinely useful.
6. Can you rewrite this paragraph in plain language without changing the facts?
Input: one dense paragraph.
Rewrite this paragraph for a business owner who does not know the jargon.
Preserve every factual limitation.
Explain necessary technical terms in ordinary words.
Do not add examples, guarantees or new claims.
PARAGRAPH:
[paste paragraph]
Expected output: clearer prose, not new research.
Check: compare the two versions sentence by sentence. A “simplification” is wrong if it changes the scope of a rule or turns “may” into “will”.
7. Which internal links would genuinely help the reader next?
Input: current page plus a list of existing pages and their one-line purposes.
Choose up to five pages from the supplied list that would help a reader continue this exact task.
For each suggestion, give the sentence or section where the link would be useful and explain why.
Do not invent URLs or recommend pages outside the supplied list.
CURRENT PAGE:
[paste page]
EXISTING PAGES:
[paste URL + one-line purpose]
Expected output: a shortlist of relevant internal links.
Check: open every suggested URL and confirm that it exists and answers the promised next question. Do not link merely because two pages contain the same keyword.
8. What could be wrong, unsupported or misleading in this finished draft?
Input: the near-final page.
Act as a skeptical editor.
Find statements that are unsupported, overconfident, internally contradictory, outdated-looking or too vague to be useful.
Also flag any place where the FAQ, short answer or metadata conflicts with the body.
Do not rewrite the page yet. Return issues first.
PAGE:
[paste final draft]
Expected output: a pre-publication issue list.
Check: resolve the issues against source documents and business facts. Then repeat the consistency check after edits.
Can ChatGPT do keyword research?
It can help with language and grouping. It should not be treated as the measurement source for search volumes unless the response is explicitly using a documented data source you can inspect.
For your own website, Search Console provides measured query data for cases where your site appeared in Google Search. Google’s current Performance report documentation defines clicks, impressions, CTR and average position and lets you group data by query.
A useful division of labour is:
- measurement comes from the measurement system;
- the assistant helps sort, label or explain the supplied data;
- a person decides what the data means for the business.
This also avoids a common failure: asking the model for “100 high-volume keywords” and then treating the confident-looking numbers as evidence.
Can AI-written content rank in Google?
The important question is not whether a sentence was typed by a person or generated with assistance. Google’s current people-first content guidance asks whether content provides original information, analysis or experience, serves an intended audience and leaves the reader feeling they learned enough to achieve their goal.
Google’s spam policies define scaled content abuse as generating many pages primarily to manipulate rankings while adding little value, and list generative-AI production at scale without added user value as an example.
So “use this prompt 100 times” is not an SEO strategy. AI can help prepare content, but the resulting page still needs accurate facts, useful first-hand or expert material, clear purpose and editorial review.
Do you need special prompts for Google AI Overviews or AI Mode?
No special writing formula is documented.
Google’s current guide to generative AI features says foundational SEO practices continue to apply. It specifically says you do not need to rewrite content in a special way just for generative AI search and warns against creating many pages around every possible query variation.
The same guide emphasizes useful, unique, non-commodity content, crawlability and Search technical requirements. A prompt can help you prepare the page; it cannot replace those conditions.
Can a prompt make your site appear in ChatGPT Search?
No prompt can guarantee inclusion or placement.
OpenAI’s current ChatGPT Search documentation says a site should allow OAI-Searchbot for eligibility and that placement is not guaranteed. OpenAI’s publisher guidance likewise explains crawler access for discovery.
That is a website-access question, not a wording trick inside somebody’s chat.
If ChatGPT Search cites your page for a real query, you can observe that result and open the citation. You still should not turn one observation into a guarantee that all users, prompts or future sessions will get the same answer.
How should you check work produced with these prompts?
Before publishing, run three different checks.
Fact check: Does every factual claim come from confirmed business information or a source you actually read?
Reader check: Does the page complete the task promised by its title, rather than merely discuss the topic?
Measurement check: Are search-volume, ranking, traffic or conversion claims coming from a measurement system rather than from generated prose?
A prompt is useful when it makes those checks easier. If it only produces more words, it has not solved the SEO problem.

Questions
What are ChatGPT SEO prompts?
They are instructions for an assistant to help with an SEO-related task such as drafting, grouping supplied queries or reviewing a page. The prompt changes the assistant’s output; it does not itself change a Google ranking.
What is the best ChatGPT prompt for SEO?
There is no universal best prompt. A useful prompt names the task, supplies the source material, limits what the assistant may assume and tells you how the result will be checked.
Can ChatGPT give me accurate keyword search volumes?
Do not treat an unsourced number generated in chat as measurement. Use measured data such as Search Console for queries that showed your own site, or another documented keyword data source, and give that data to the assistant if you want help grouping it.
Can ChatGPT write SEO content that Google will rank?
It can help draft or edit content, but neither OpenAI nor Google guarantees placement from a prompt or a generated page. Google emphasizes useful, original, people-first content and prohibits scaled content created primarily to manipulate rankings.
Do I need special wording for Google AI Overviews or AI Mode?
Google says you do not need to write in a special way just for generative AI search. Its current guidance says foundational SEO, crawlability and useful content remain the basis.
Can a prompt make my website appear in ChatGPT Search?
No prompt can guarantee that. OpenAI says websites need to allow OAI-Searchbot to be eligible for inclusion and that placement is not guaranteed.
How should I check an answer from ChatGPT Search?
Open the citations or Sources when available and confirm that the source actually supports the statement, is current enough and is authoritative for the claim.
Should I publish the first draft an assistant gives me?
No. Check every factual claim, remove invented specifics, add first-hand information the model could not know, and make sure the page genuinely completes the reader’s task.
